Severity (S, B) — FMEA Rating
1–10 scale rating the severity of the failure effect at the customer — one factor of the RPN.
Also known as: severity, S, B
Severity (short S in English, B in German-language FMEAs) rates how serious the effect of a failure mode is for the customer or downstream system — on a scale from 1 = negligible to 10 = safety-critical / non-compliant.
- 1–2 — hardly noticeable
- 3–4 — minor impact, customer rarely complains
- 5–6 — moderate impact, notable loss of comfort or function
- 7–8 — severe impact, core function lost
- 9–10 — safety or legal implications
