RPN (Risk Priority Number)

Product of S × O × D in the FMEA — a rough prioritisation, not an absolute risk measure.

Also known as: Risk Priority Number, RPN, risk score

The Risk Priority Number RPN condenses the three ratings of an FMEA row into a single figure.

Values range from 1 to 1000. Rows with a high RPN are addressed with actions first; after implementation the row is re-rated and the RPN recomputed.
