Substance-Field Analysis (Su-Field)
Models every interaction as a triangle of tool (S1), object (S2) and field (F), including the quality of the effect.
Also known as: su-field, Vepol analysis, substance-field model
Substance-field analysis (Russian вепольный анализ, Vepol analysis) is the most formal TRIZ tool. It reduces every technical interaction to a triangle of three minimal elements:
- S1 — tool: the substance doing the work (drill, blade, jet, hand)
- S2 — workpiece: the substance worked upon (material, part, information)
- F — field: the medium of interaction, in six canonical types (MATCEM)
Each edge of the triangle carries a quality: useful, insufficient, excessive, harmful — or missing. This constellation determines which of the 76 standard solutions applies: an incomplete model is completed, a harmful one shielded or destroyed, an insufficient one strengthened.
