Response
The output measured in the experiment — e.g. yield, strength, cycle time. What is to be optimised or understood.
Also known as: response variable, output, dependent variable
The response is the dependent variable of an experiment: the quantity whose behaviour is to be explained by the factors. It provides the model .
- Scalar response — one measurement per run (yield in %, strength in MPa)
- Multiple responses — several quantities optimised jointly (e.g. yield AND purity); analysed via desirability or multi-objective optimisation
- Dual response — modelling mean AND spread together (dispersion DoE)
